I don't think he ever owned the entire team; my understanding was that he only owned *part* of it.

Conflict of interest? Yes and no. Frankly, I think most of the business ties politicians have are conflicts of interest. But owning a baseball team doesn't seem to rank very high to me. Don't get me wrong - I absolutely hate George W. Bush. But I don't think it was that big of a deal compared to the million other conflicts of interest I know he has.

As a side note, there are rumors that W was involved and knew all about the steroid use in MLB over the past decade or so. But you'd probably want to look into his ties with pharmaceutical companies when it comes to that... I know if I were selling drugs, I'd want to sell them to multi-millionaires like baseball players. And hell, if those same players play better and you own the team they play for, that's killing two birds with one stone! Ah, that Georgie, always thinkin'.

  • I don't believe this would be a conflict of interest for any reason. He owned the Rangers before he became President. Now on the other hand Bill Clinton I hear now has an interest in the Cuban Cigars that are sold in America which he made popular while he was a sitting President.

President Bush did at one time own part of the Texas Rangers. However, when a person becomes president all his assets are placed in a blind trust and while he is in office, he does not have anything to do with his assets so that he does not have a conflict of interest. I don't know if President Bush has any ownership in the Rangers at this time or not, but he would have it in a blind trust if he did.

He used to own the Texas Rangers. And what possible conflict of interest could this cause? I don't remember the last time any President had a firm hand in the operations of Major League Baseball.

The team is owned by Texas businessman Tom Hicks through his Southwest Sports Group, which also owns the Dallas Stars hockey team

Prove that George Bush owns the Texas Rangers so that he can be impeached.

    Wow... get out much?

Tom Hicks owns the Rangers currently. Bush sold the tema years ago.

By the way... sitting Presidents can have personal financial interests.

i don't believe of we honestly blame him, i imagine it really is the very incontrovertible truth that he's representing some thing we do not matter on. it may be any president and as long as you do not accept as true with what is going on contained in the authorities you've in charge someone, and if he took the pastime, he should be the single we aspect the finger at. i'm no longer of any political social gathering i do not accept as true with many political leaders republican or democrat, is that undesirable. are not we allowed to have our own evaluations?

I think he sold them a long time ago...but it would hardly be a conflict of interest.

Would he make the Rangers the national team and exile the other teams or something?

He sold his interest in the club in 1994, when he became Governor of texas
