How do I "thin-out" my closet? I have too many clothes!!!?
About every 6 months or so I get the urge to clean my closet and get rid of clothes that I do not wear anymore. I ALWAYS end up getting rid of only a few things even though I tell myself going in that if I havent worn it in the last year get rid of it! Anyone else do this as well and any advice?? Please help!!! :)

First take everything out and put it on racks so you can see it all. If you find anything that you don't remember or that you know you haven't worn in the last year, eliminate it. Then, try everything on and if it doesn't fit correctly, is damaged beyond repair, or stained, get rid of it. Then, if you can't imagine that you would ever wear it again get rid of it. This should get rid of quite a few of your clothes.

Instead of getting rid of your clothes, try only putting out the things that fit the season. It helps with closet issue and when they've been outta sight for so long, you won't get sick of them so fast. Just buy some totes!

I used to have this problem, until I asked my best friend on earth who I trust with all my heart, and who knows me better than anyone, to come to my house, and I had HER clean out my closets! I took out everything I hadn't worn in a year, or that was shabby, not my size, out of style. Then I asked HER to get rid of everything she KNEW I would not wear again, or that she had not seen me wear the past year or so. Then, I left and went out to hang at the library, bought some new music (NO clothing shopping), and when I came home, she had already taken the stuff and given it to Goodwill/Salvation Army. It did my heart good to know that people who cannot afford good clothing of their own, would receive what I had selfishly kept all that time...PLUS I set myself a BUDGET for clothing. "FAD" items...items that would go in/out of style, were kept to a minimum. For every new fad item I bought I had to toss one or donate it. I concentrate now on more timeless and always in style clothing and buy lots of things to accessorize with so that nothing goes out of style and i always have "fresh new" styles and outfits. Hope this helped.

My mom has the same problem..lol, don't worry, I can help..
Okay First section your clothes off.
1 pile of short sleeve shirts.
1 pile of longs sleeve
1 pile of pants
1 pile of shorts
and soo on...
Then figure out how many of each you want to keep.
If you have a big closet go for 20 of each.
Now pick 20 items of each pile and get rid of the rest.
If you can't ask a teenager/daughter what looks best and what to get rid of

Hope this helps =]

Just chuck what you don't wear or doesn't fit. Don't think twice about it. If you will not wear in the next week, chuck it. You could donate the clothes though! A lot of people have exactly the opposite problem, not enough clothes!

I just want to say that it also happens to me . and i get rid of clothes every weekend but that means that it is little by little . but it is just that all the clothes we have is because we like them and we bought them precisely with that in mind ,.,so if you have a lot of clothes and don't like just the moment fashion keep it because remember that fashions go back and forth. to me also makes me feel good that I am still on my weight as i was twenty years ago. ( i have a cacharel suit I bought in Paris by that time.

I do this every couple of years when i grow out of my clothes. Don't just throw out all the clothing. Some people don't have ENOUGH clothes. So you should donate it or give them to someone you know.

you can start out with getting rid of the clothes that are too small you think you gonna fit into later on

Donate them to Charity, and then be motivated because you're doing it for a good cause. Maybe you should start fresh. get rid of all your clothes except your favorites and then go on a HUGE shopping spree
