Who, in your opinion, is the most soulful guitarist?

Even though it's probably an obvious one, I would have to say Jimi Hendrix. Like, in my opinion, no one will ever have such love for a guitar as he did, he even said it himself you know

'The time I burned my guitar was a sacrifice. You sacrifice the things you love. I love my guitar.'

And when you listen to his music, EVERY. SINGLE. note is dripping with soul, you can feel it, you know HE feels it and every note means something and there's no just filling in to make the song sound better, he felt every note. He was addicted to music, said so himself!

Pretty much any good blues or blues-rock guitarist, including B.B. King, Paul Kossoff, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Peter Green, Carlos Santana, Howlin' Wolf, Peter Green, etc.

I'd choose Eric Clapton.

Kossoff is an excellent choice Brian.

I would also put forward the name Carlos Santana fire and soul go into every note that Man plays

Phil Keaggy

He is a Christian artist. I had to check him out after Eddie Van Halen and Ted Nugent both called Phil Keaggy the greatest guitarist in the world. I was not sorry I found Phil Keaggy, he is awesome. And his singing sounds a lot like Paul McCartney. Talk about soulful, Phil worships God through his guitar. The only problem I have with Phil Keaggy is, you can't predict what is next album will be like. He will go from a hard rock album to a classical album, to a soft rock album, he's all over the place. I like consistency. You never had to worry about Van Halen or Ted Nugent releasing a classical album.

Now how can I pick just one?!

I would say David Gilmour because I might go as far as to say that his guitar sound makes me weep. In all honesty, it gives me shivers down my spine and goosebumps. Second would be Jimmy Page, because his playing is very soul-filled and incendiary... they both blow my friggen mind.
