Why does it have to be sweet?
Try this once and you will be hooked!
I like to lightly toast the grain in butter or oil before cooking
Cook with chicken broth to make a thick porridge
Season to taste with salt & pepper
Cool slightly then add beaten eggs and Parmesan cheese
Mix well
Put in loaf pan
Bake until set.
I know it sounds somewhat strange but just go with it.
You will be quite surprised at the tasty results!
It is cheap and delish

Hmmm... When I make porridge, I would use 1 part oats, 1 part milk and 2 parts water. Old and reliable with a good texture. Add sugar how you want. Don'f forget to set the porridge to simmer just as it's approaching the boil. You could also set it to simmer slightly longer than you usually do.

Soy milk or even water is good for porridge -not as heavy as milk-, and honey is a great sub for sugar. Loads of toppings to be used: nuts, dried fruit, fresh fruit (also mashed banana mixed in instead of sugar)..

Porridge still tastes creamy if you make it with water, believe it or not!
Try it
Porridge is sweet anyway so try eating without anything- you'll soon get used to it.
If you are on a diary free diet, try rice milk or soya.
Use honey
Add nuts and dried fruit
Or you could add some chocolate or (healthier) carob drops

With Cinnamon and Apple
I peel, core and chop an apple (I prefer tart apples, use what you like). I cook the apple in just a bit of water to soften, then add the porridge with water and cinnamon and finish cooking. It is my favorite way to prepare it. Hope you like it.

My mom made it interesting by mixing lots of different things into it every morning. Syrup, honey, fruit cocktail, any other kinds of fruit, chocolate syrup, marshmallows, peanut butter & jelly (or just peanut butter one day & jelly the next), cheesecake, pie fillings, pudding mixes, or anything else you might like. Just use the porridge as a base, then be as creative as your tastebuds will accept. <*)))><

make it with water, or rice milk is REALLY nice - it gives it a nuttier flavour! add cinnamon, sultanas, nutmeg and maybe a little ginger or chopped apple. you could add a tiny bit of honey as an unrefined sugar (but it isn't necessary!)
mmm i love this recipe...
enjoy!

I use water for my porridge so its not as creamy, but I use honey sometimes, and a spponful of jam is lovely or stewed fruit, that way you get one of your 5-a-day fruit portions!
