What is the best way to curtail corruption in a country that is beset with such a problem?

This is a pretty vague question. Do you mean government corruption, corporate corruption, or just corruption overall? to solve government corruption, we should start with the campaign process. Allow each candidate a set amount of free advertising time on all the networks. This would end the need for such vast amounts of money and level the playing field. No longer would the richest candidate win. For the first time in generations, it would be based on merit. It would also be the end of negative advertising as candidates would need to use that time more wisely. They would have to spend that time convincing us why they are the best choice, rather than why their opponent isn't. The result would probably be less apathy and greater voter turn out.

Corporate corruption? How about making the individual more important than greedy corporations? How about accountability? Maybe we could put the needs of the majority ahead of the greed and ambitions of the wealthy minority. Who knows, if we started there, we might avoid another Enron fiasco.

As for corruption in general? Hold people responsible for their own behavior. Stop filling the prisons with poor minorities and put real criminals who actually do harm all of society behind bars. Better yet, we should all stop tolerating it.

Historically, gun control, in one of two forms, has proven effective.

In one form, gun ownership is denied the populace. Guns of the government are then used to eliminate complaints of corruption.

In the other form, the populace retains ownership of their guns and use them to eliminate the corrupt politicians.

Political control of political corruption is ineffective. The ruling party gets to define "corruption" and chooses a definition that minimizes the impact to itself and maximizes the impact to their opponents. In fact, political control of political corruption is clearly demonstrated in all of the world's most corrupt governments.

Get involved. That's what the problem is now days. No one wants to be involved. Start neighborhood watches, volunteer with the sheriff's dept. but GET INVOLVED!!!
