Does anyone know how to solve this?

    suppose the sold =S

    so the remain in A = 156 -S

    the remain in B = 72 -S

    (156-S)/(72-S)=4/1

    156-S =4(72-S) =288 -4S

    3S=288-156 =132

    S=44

    so every shop sold 44 Kg

    Let the amount of rice sold by both shops be x kg.

    (156-x) / (72-x) = 4/1

    156 - x = 4(72-x)

    156 -x = 288 - 4x

    4x - x = 288 - 156

    3x = 132

    x = 132/3 = 44

    44 kg of rice was sold by each shop.

    Let x = kg of rice sold by both.

    => (156 - x) / (72 - x) = 4

    => 156 - x = 288 - 4x

    => 3x = 132

    => x = 44 kg.

    Verification:

    Shop A will be left with 156 - 44 = 112 kg

    Shop B will be left with 72 - 44 = 28 kg

    !!2 / 28 = 4.

    let x = amount of rice sold

    156- x = left rice for shop A

    72- x = left rice for shop B

    156-x : 72 - x = 4 : 1

    4(72 - x) = 1 (156 - x)

    288 - 4x = 156 - x

    3x = 132

    x = 44 kgs

    x=44

    both shops sold 44kg of rice
