You've heard people say things like "I'm a cat person" or "I'm just not a dog person" and they aren't bad. (Well, maybe they are, but *I* certainly haven't seen any reason to believe that.) You're just not a degu person. Write up a an ad that says "Free to a good home" and run it in the newsletters of the local schools.

But what do you hate about your degu? Answer that and you'll have a better idea of what kind of pet, if any, you should get next time.

    Some issues to consider:

Maintenance. If you resent the time and effort of maintaining a pet--well, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. You're better off getting your animalfix by being "Uncle Jerryguy" to your friend's dog.

All animals poop, but some animals are easier than others when it comes to dealing with it. Rodents are *not* known for keeping tidy, nice-smelling habitats. Degus are also cecotrophic, which adds a gross-out factor.

What kind of interaction would you expect? Cats and dogs will give you unconditional love, but they are a much greater commitment of time and money. On the other hand, scooping a litter pan is much easier than washing out a cage. And they're intelligent, if that's what you need.

    Good luck!

It does not make you a bad person. Just treat him or her good until you can find it a better home.

Do what the other answerer said and figure out what you want in a pet before getting another one. Then do tons of research in order to figure out what pet meets your needs.

My favorite rodent pets are rats - they are intelligent and affectionate like dogs but take up a smaller amount of space than dogs do. On the other hand, you still have to clean the cage - so, it just depends on what you do not like about your degu.

I agree with the other poster. It doesn't make you a bad person and if you dislike them so much that you hate them, perhaps a loving home is in order. Hopefully you treat them well, despite your feelings toward them.

no it just means you are not keen on them-as long as you treat it fairly and nicely then its ok-you can always give it away to a nice home/

No now if you started abusing it then yes.

Best to find him a new home.
