While I understand and share your frustration with the big-money games and power grabbing going on right now, your question is a false and offensive comparison which contrasts "upstanding citizen" to "ex-con" as if 1) there were no other options 2) ex-cons cannot be upstanding citizens 3) what makes a citizen upstanding is the lack of a rap sheet.

All three assumptions are false as you will see when you examine them. This is a legitimate subject and I feel that electioneering practices should be discussed at length, but lets make sure our questions are meaningful.
