As far as I know it means that the police do not have enough evidence to charge you but have put you on a bond to either stop you from going anywhere or to stop you from going in certain ares, this will be written down as condition's of your bond... the police now have to the date of your preliminary hearing to charge you or to drop your bond... Have also seen the DPP use a bond to make sure a person is at court on the day of the hearing in order to use them as a witness against the other people in the matter, the police who are doing the investigation may have felt you would not show at court if they just supened you but this works both ways, they may be hoping that the person charged when questioned by the DPP dobs you in, the judge then remands you in custody to be charged....

If you have a preliminary exam scheduled, you have already been charged and arraigned. Being released on bond has no bearing on the case. The only advantage to being released on bond is that you don't have to sit in jail to await your preliminary exam.

It is better to be out of jail so that you can assist your attorney with your defense.
