Questions about Casino Rating Systems (MGM Players Club)?

Hi... I was just out in Vegas with some friends. I gambled pretty regularly with two people; we all have Players Club cards and used them religiously at the tables. My two friends are married and on a linked account (2 card numbers that go back to one Players Club account) and I am solo on my account. The husband gambled about as much as I did-- consistently $20 + odds on craps plus assorted line/hardway/feild bets, and the wife bet about half of that. During the play we got equal comps (cigarettes, etc). At checkout, their food tabs had been comped and one night of my room had been comped (separate bills, separate rooms) so I got about $75 more than they did in freebies. Now that I get home, I am getting tons of emails from the MGM casino family offering me a casino host for the next trip and Players rates but they are not getting anything.

My Q: why am I getting more comps when one of them gambled as much as I did and between them, they spent more?

(No I am not complaining!)

Update:

One last detail: I booked my room directly with the casino and they booked via Orbitz for an air+hotel package. Might that have something to do with it? Or is the wife's lower play bringing down the husband's higher play because the two accounts are linked and are being averaged?

Comping people isn't really an exact science. The pit bosses just kind of keep an eye on you to check your bets, and try to note when you leave the table to judge how long you play. Chances are, you just got rated higher than your friends. Maybe you happened to have larger bets out when the pit boss looked over, or for some reason he just payed more attention to you. Also, the wife's play may not have affected the couple's rating. It should not bring the average down like you suggested, but if she doesn't have a $25 average bet, they may not have rated her at all.

I don't think booking their rooms through Orbitz made a difference, but tell them next time to call the hotel directly and mention their play to see if they can get a room comped. If they don't get it comped, they should say they want a $10,000 credit line. That will usually do it, lol. (You don't have to play that much, just make them think you will)

Good luck and have fun on your next trip.

I am not certain how MGM rates, but when we went to Atlantis, my husband never had a chip less than $100. We were on a linked account too. I played much less, but I thought every $5 helps, right? WRONG!!! His average bet when we checked out was $85, even though he NEVER played anything less than $100, so I would bet that's what happened. Averages are averages. He'd have been better off if she never used the card. Live & learn.

Comping people is a very difficult thing to do but it's expected to be done as accurately as possible there is a lot of soft ware around to do just that and it takes in everything from theoretical lose to skill level and how aggressively you play. Vegas Matt should know that is expected to be very accurate and is actually almost a science.
