my employer has taken control of our tip pool and added supervisors to it, is this right?

Update:

the original tip pool consisted of employees whose hourly wage is $6/hr. the management employees now in the pool are paid $30/hr before tips.

    It probably isn't illegal, but it sure isn't reasonable or fair.

    It does not sound fair to me. Also it seems counter productive. As a manager, I would want the people who are directly responsible for customer care, to be able to reap the benefits of doing a good job, which is shown in the amount of tips. I have a problem with pooled tips for the same reason. You are not going to bust your butt to take care of the customers, if there are people there who don't and get paid the same anyway!

    managers should not be getting tips - call the state dept of labor and see if that's legal
