All their customres are getting ripped off. You spend 4x as much for something than if you went out and bought it full out. They aren't any better than those check cashing places. These people make their money off people who don't have money or the resource for credit go get things on their own. Really sad....the poor get poorer and will never get ahead and the rich get richer. *sigh*

The rental outfits provide a way to either get temporary furnishings - if you are in twon for a short time, for example, or having guests for an extended time - or obtain furnishings at a relatively low up-front price - and a staggering ultimate cost. These companies are really in the finance business. They make their money by providing you that television at a price between 2 and 4 times what you would pay for it retail. Even if you put it on a cedit card at high interest or financed the TV purchase, you'd pay less over time. If your credit will hold up to financing the purchase of your new TV, then do it through a competitive store rather than the rental company.

Rent-a-Center is a very profitable business in taking advantage of poor souls. You be better off to buy it with a credit card if you are planning to use it more than 10 months. It is okay for three months or less if you are in a transistion period.

Yes, what they do are legal. Most folks get burnt because they forgot to cancel or return on time. They rip you off when there is a tiny scratched. Believe me, it is a lesson learn.

simply agreeing to do anything with Rent a Center is a ripoff...a $500 sofa will ultimately cost you $2000 there! And they will repeatedly call you for some kind of promotion!

I believe the nature of the business is to rip you off - for not having the cash to buy it outright.

my cousin got taken for thousands. ended up returning it all - or having to return it.

It was beautiful though, (furniture) but WAY too expensive.

its simple, as long as you pay you have no problem. you are basically paying double because you credit is messed up for used crap. im glad i just waited around for someone to give away there stuff and it was free. i have taken so much furniture and ripped it and stained the color of the rest of my furniture and you would never know it was used.
