Election Holiday?

Would you support making Election Day a national holiday? Why or why not?

I would support making it a holiday or moving it to the weekend. The simple fact is some working people can't make it to the polls on a Tuesday. I think having the elections on a weekend or an election day holiday would encourage more voter participation. I will say I don't think it will make a very substantial difference though, because most voters who take their civic duty seriously and treasure their right to vote will vote on a Tuesday no matter what. I have never missed an election day since I became 18. So those who are really entrenched in the political right to a vote have already been coming out. But there is no doubt that moving it will bring in more voters, even if the number is not incredibly substantial.

Republicans always fight against such ideas, another similar idea being to have people register and vote at work. Such changes would cause millions of working class people to vote, and most of them are democrats.

    No.

It should take at least a modicum of effort to vote.
