There are quite a few misguided or perhaps simply imbecilic individuals who claim that he was. Clearly Washington would not have embraced today's modern liberal and probably couldn't even fathom such an ideology.

While in office, Washington allied himself with the Federalists, who advocated a national system where the federal government would hold ultimate power (as opposed to the Anti-Federalists, who adhered to the doctrine of states' rights). Typically in the American context, liberals tend to favor allocating more power to the federal government (particularly concerning entitlement programs and civil rights issues), while conservatives are more in favor of states' rights (i.e. transferring responsibilities to states to decrease federal spending). So in this way, Washington could be considered a liberal.

Yes. The liberals of his time fought england and won independence for the colonies, while the conservatives of the day were brit boot lickers that wanted to keep bowing to the king. Not much has changed since then. Those that do not know history are doomed to repeat it.

Well,Washington supported the Bill of Rights. So--by the standards of his time--or ours--that makes him a liberal.

you're one hundred% nicely suited. Now take a particular look on the quote from George Washington, fantastically the bit approximately mankind being greater apt to permit people who habit THEMSELVES AS worth members OF THE community an entitlement to protections of civil government. persons that the liberals of as we talk champion the main -- criminals, welfare recipients, unlawful immigrants, and people who insist on being able to do despite they like on each and every occasion they like -- are by no potential worth members of the community. those human beings positioned their very very own egocentric needs over all else and make contributions no longer something yet difficulty to society at super. The word "community" is thoroughly lost on those human beings -- all they care approximately is calling out for form one and making themselves their very very own gods. So I project you to look on the actual liberal nature of our Founding Fathers and notice merely how furiously they're turning over of their graves on the perversion of liberty as we talk's liberals are advocating.

I guess you can eat your word Kyle
and all of the conservatives that think thiscountry weas founded by conservatives
The following is a George W ashington quote
As Mankind becomes more liberal, they will be more apt to allow that all those who conduct themselves as worthy members of the community are equally entitled to the protections of civil government. I hope ever to see America among the foremost nations of justice and liberality.

Your damn skippy he was!
The difference is what he did with his ideas.
He had values that supported the unity of humanity against occupation and tyranny.
He had courage to brave the cold winters "With His Men" on the battle front and lead them.
He had the courage to denounce the control of rule by an occupational country in order to establish a more perfect union.
Basically He had: Values, Guts, Integrity, Courage, and Faith. Try finding a politician, let alone a "Liberal" with at least two of those characteristics today. Good Luck! Peace out Bro!

Absolutely. Compared to the Torries of his day he was a bleedin' liberal and if they had won the British would have hanged him.
