What are some things that I need to be aware of Paypal when buying items on EBay?

I am new to Paypal and I am interested to buy some things on ebay. What are some tips that you can give me to protect myself from being ripped off?

PayPal is quite reputable. Your private info is very safe. You can shop without worry.

I'm an eBay Power Seller and have delt with PayPal constantly for a few years. It's pretty much a necessity for buying or selling on eBay, but is by no means entirely innocent. Here's one thing you need to know.

PayPal will try you get you to become "Verified", which sounds like it's simply a way of letting the other party know your address is correct. This is a trick. To become verified, they ask for your bank routing number. What they don't tell you in advance is that every time you buy something from then on, PayPal will draft the payment directly from your bank account by default. I didn't realize this until I had made several purchases and I was pretty steamed. What you have to do is go through an extra click through process every time you buy something to keep it from doing this. Don't get "verified" if you can help it. Sellers generally don't care about this.

Be cautious when you see the items for sale are copyrighted pictures. Personal pictures like amateur pictures taken of the item listed are usually a good buy. Personal pics are easy to distinguish from copyrighted ones. Also since your new to eBay you should just trust the sellers that have a 100% track record. Most of the users on ebay that have 100% are honest and good ones and you'll notice most of them have amateur pictures of the items listed and not copyrighted ones. Also make sure that their feedback indicates that they are sellers you should read things like "great seller fast shipping", just because they have 100% doesn't mean they are good sellers they may be good buyers but have never sold anything on ebay before. Also you always want to make sure you use paypal and get the insurance for your item when it is shipped to you. Best of Luck!
