Would it bother you???

If you took the time and money to find a near perfect gift and the recipient doesn't even know what you got because it got messed up, would you care??? keep in mind the recipient may now think you got something cheesy.....

I would be really ticked if they didn't know it was me. It would be hard.

It is acceptable in certain situations to offer a promisory present. This is one of them. Another is if you didn't know a special occasiona was occuring.

What you do is get a nice piece of paper, include a description of the gift and the date it is expected to be ready. Eaplain that you were orginally told the gift would be ready by this date, but because of unforseen circumstances it wasn't. People understand that sometimes things break through no fault of their own. if they don't, and they don't appreciate your effort, next time, put less effort into their gift. :)

No, I wouldn't be bothered, I would tell the recipient that the present was faulty and that I would bring a replacement, then go get another one!

Open up, tell the full story, have a laugh and then go shopping together to replace or renew
