Migraines.......???

I have recently been having migraines. I made an appointment with a dr. but I am not sure what to expect. Migraines run in my family. What are they caused from? What should I expect the dr. to do about them? They aren't constant just about once a month or so. I've been having them for about 5 months now. Anyone have any experience with migraines and any advice for me?

i get them frequently as well. my dr found that mine were linked to my period. i get mine at least once a month right before my period starts due to changes in my hormone levels. i sometimes get another one after my period ends when my hormone levels again change as their returning to normal levels. it's awful : (

i was prescribed Relpax and it works great when i'm at home and can sleep (the meds are ideal if i get one at night b/c these pills knock me out). the downfall is if i get one while at work or when i'm out and about running errands and such. somebody mentioned excedrine migraine and these work great when you get a moderate to mild migraine and can't take the prescription meds that make you sleepy. if you get a severe one-nothing outside of the prescription meds really works (and for me if i get a severe one-i always vomit so the meds don't stay put anyways).

depending on how often you get them and how severe they are, your dr might prescribe you a pill you take daily to prevent the headaches from starting. these have minimal side effects. sunlight can trigger these headaches too so avoid too much sun exposure.

changes in diet are said to help too (avoiding too much salt, msg, etc).

if you feel a migraine coming on (and after you get a few of these-you can usually tell the difference between it and a regular headache) take your prescription pill or some excedrine migraine at once and lie down in a dark, quiet, and comfortable room for at least 15-30 mins to give the medication a chance to kick in. place a cool washcloth over your forehead and have something cold to drink nearby (with caffeine in it preferably-caffeine helps migraines).

    hope this helps!!

I do get migraines. I got a medical discharge from the military because of them. Everyone suffers from migraine syndrome differently, in some way, but the typical symptoms are: 1. Ache/throb on one side of the head 2. Sensitivity to light 3. Sensitivity to sound 4. Nausea, etc. I personally also have a sensitivity to smell, and tend to lose some of my equilibrium as well. Most people feel better sitting or lying down in a cool, dark room. Some people need caffeine, others find that their headaches are triggered by it. One of the first things to do is to figure out what gave you the headache in the first place and try to steer clear of that (those) thing(s). I usually end up sleeping mine off. I hope this helps...

Migraine Syndrome is a debilitating and demoralizing headache with other symptoms accompanying it. Most common of those symptoms are; sensitivity to light, nausea, balance distress, Symptoms totally dependent on how many of the cranial nerves are involved in the inflammatory process. Since the cranial nerves are 1/2 of the autonomic nervous system, the balances of the bodies functions become unbalanced. Thus, dilation of the pupils, arteries etc.

When these nerves become involved in the inflammatory process, they become tender to sore. Even the nerves which supply the face. Each of the presenting symptoms can be traced to one of the cranial nerves, eg: 10th equates with the nausea. There are 12 cranial nerves so the symptoms may become quite diverse and far reaching. Even to the auditory portion of the skull.

Familial tendencies may be a factor but, examination of each family member will reveal some degree of postural discrepancy. Indicating there is a tendency for such a malady to occur.

I have had Migraines for years 20 year's I have read all kinds of studies why we get them.. I just know how I get rid of them. For about 6 month around a year ago Nothing worked.

Asked your doctor about Zomig.you can get the one that melts in your mouth. I like the one that is a nasal spray. It works within seconds, so nice. Now days you do not need to be in pain.....I also do massage and things like that if I catch it in time.Sometimes I can not get to my acupuncture. That when I use Zomig, you can work, drive a car , if it is time to sleep that to Zomig, has saved my life.

I have chronic migraines and my life was a living hell until I discovered Excedrin Migraines. If you take them right at the onset of a migraine, it'll stop it dead in its tracks. Hugs. I know it hurts.

Excess of liver fire or Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy thro' Gall Bladder and/or Urinary Bladder Meridians is its' main cause.

There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for almost all painful diseases like RA, Back ache, earache etc. Hence they become chronic.

Acidity, WORRY, sadness, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation; drug side effects, stress, bad smell, TV & COMPUTER SOMETIMES,

Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.

    Acupuncture is the best treatment.

I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.

Pain killers don't treat the pain but we loose the sense of pain for some time; in that duration our body itself treats sometime and credit goes to meds.

These useless drugs have enormous power to create hazardous side effects like liver/kidney failure, ulcer, acidity and lot others.

Avoid late sleeping if possible; worry, spicy foods, sour fruits, stale bakery foods and alcohole.

Sweet foods, COCOANUT WATER,sweet fruits, milk, rice, SPROUTS, SALADS and good sleep will help you if cough is not there.

But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it is very strong.

Pl search a painful point 3-6 mm behind your thumb nail and press it, H/A will disappear within 30 seconds if it is acute!

I ahve been having migranes all my life and have been to many doctors these are the examples of migranes: cluster headaches cant do much about them, head problems like arteries and brain abdormalitys which could also be cancer or blood clots.

many things contribute to migranes lack of sleep, stress, head problems (cancer, hormones, blood, oxygen) and most doctors will just send you to get an MRI then send you to a neurologist (brain dude) and if they find nothing u will have to go to a counciler or get breathing/relaxing class.

My experiences i have bin havin migranes all my life they are always different sometimes i get sore eyes, sick, and pain in different areas of my head. most of the time the pain is so bad i start shaking and get weird. the biggest problem is that when i get migranes i cant sleep for a few days which just makes the pain worse which makes me not sleep then i get worse migranes and the cycle keeps going, quite annoying.

normally drugs or pills eg panadol, advil or migrane tablets do not work. but if you can take migrane tablets when you feel you are about to get 1 or else your screwed.

    dont know about genetic things

hope that helps message me if you have any questions

Lots of headaches are caused by dehydration. I get migraines too. Try drinking more water. Avoid light and noise when you do get them. and SLEEP.

But most likely the doctor will want a catscan before any meds are given
