6 months prior to trying to conceive do the following:

-go to the doctor (OBGYN) and your regular doctor for a physical - tell them your plans

-start taking a prenatal vitamin and 1000mg of folic acid

-you will also need to increase your calcium- either incorporate more into your diet or take a supplement

    -exercise regularly

    -eat healthy

-Go buy the book: Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. The book explains your cycles, charting and how to get pregnant. It is a great book.

-Buy a basal thermometer at the drug store. Start charting your waking temperature so that you can get an accurate picture of what is happening in your cycles. This information can aid you in having sex at the correct time as well as providing your doctors with information that can lead them to figuring out what the problem is if you wind up having a problem. When you do this ahead of time, you will already have your cycle down when you start trying. (You can also use this method for birth control.)

-stop doing drugs or smoking cigarettes (if you do)

You can start taking pre-natal vitamins.

My OB had me on them for a year before I conceived.

They won't hurt you - and they will prepare your body for a baby, when you decide to have one :)
