IT'S OFFICIAL! Curt Schilling and the RED SOX agree on a 1 year deal!!!?

On Curt's Blog he made the announcement that he will be returning for 1 more year to end his career in a RED SOX uniform where he started as a prospect.

The deal looks like this.

$8 million in guaranteed base salary

$2 million in bonuses for 6 seperate weigh ins.

$3 million in IP incentives based on IP totals.

$1 million for receiving a Cy Young vote, any vote.

I am psyched because he is a true pro with alot of great leadership qualites to pass on to the younger pitchers and will have a very good year by the looks of what he did after he came of the DL this year.

Thoughts?

Update:

Hey M.M.12, From what I saw the thing Phillie DOES need is a pitcher like Schilling. You know, one that can win a post season game. With what's on the market this year you should be bummed Phillie didn't get a chance @ Schilling. You don't really have much to trade.

Okay, well, I believe fair is fair, so I will simply ask, M.M.12, who, pray tell, do you feel is an unequivocally more accomplished and talented starting pitcher on the Phillies team than Curt Schilling?

And, in an offseason littered with very unremarkable starting pitchers on the market, who among the available free agents is an unequivocally more accomplished and talented option than Curt Schilling?

Honestly. Who? Livan Hernandez? Carlos Silva? Steve Trachsel? Bartolo Colon? Perhaps Randy Wolf, if the Dodgers decide to let him go? Jeff Weaver?

You could try Andy Pettitte...good luck persuading him to opt for Philadelphia, though...

It's so easy to bash, but unless you see a better alternative, Curt Schilling and his ever-present blog would've been a strong addition to a Phillies team that really could use it's share of help in the rotation...

Pitching isn't all approximately wins and losses. Curt Schilling is a workhorse who pitches different "high quality starts". he's likewise a staggering impression interior the locker room. upload to that his paintings interior the playoffs (he went 3-0 in 4 outings with a three.00 era, 26 Ks and 3 BBs). Schilling went 9-8 in the process the standard season 3.87 era, a hundred and one/23 ok/BB ratio, a million.25 WHIP. In all 8 losses, the Sox did no longer provide him run help (no losses w/5 or greater runs scored via the pink Sox). Clemens went 6-6 in the process the standard season 4.18 era, sixty 8/31 ok/BB ratio a million.30 WHIP. Schilling began 28 video games such through fact the playoffs, 3 of which he did no longer pass a minimum of 5 innings. Clemens began 19 video games such through fact the playoffs, 5 of which he did no longer pass 5 innings. Curt additionally performs the great season and is definitely area of the "team" from the commencing up of spring education to the final out of the season. The "Rocket" is a factor time participant who seems to love all the attention he gets via preserving out the 1st 2 months of the season. He does not return and forth along with his team for "away" video games while he's not scheduled to pitch, and does not take part in spring education. in short, he's a mercenary. Given the alternative between the two, i might choose Curt Schilling on my team. sure, provide me "Hoss". If Clemens needs to help strengthen youthful gamers, perhaps he could attempt training.

I am so glad it will happen! I was also thrilled to see the final words in his blog to the Sox owners...Sign Lowell! My sentiments exactly!

This is great news for Phillies fans everywhere. Now they can spend their money on someone else who isn't a blowhard and in love with himself. I was getting a little uneasy hearing those rumors that he wanted to come back to Philly. He's on his last leg anyway and while the rest of the free agent crop of pitchers is not all that great, the Phillies did not need his hot air balloon sized head/ego contaminating the healthy environment that they have built.

As far as your response, yes the Phillies need to upgrade their pitching. Not with a 41 year old guy who is a shadow of what he once was, is disruptive, selfish and an egomaniac though. He's the perfect type of guy who would've come here and tried to undermine Charlie Manuel. They have built a great group of guys who hustle and never quit and who all like each other. Poll the guys in the Red Sox clubhouse OFF THE RECORD and see how many truly like Schilling. I'd be willing to bet the answer would be 50-50 like/dislike. I speak for a lot of Phillies fans when I say - you wanted him...great, keep him. The Phillies will be much better off going in another direction. Schilling wouldn't have mattered in the postseason this year anyway. They ran into a buzzsaw in Colorado - a team who was on fire and was not going to lose to anyone at that point in time.

He better bring a better A game in '08 then what we saw in '07.

But look what he did in the ALDS, ALCS and World Series.Schill has and always will be a fierce competitor. If anything he deserves to retire in a Boston uniform.

Schilling and the Red Sox: Perfect together. Now all they need to do is get that headhunter and old-man-killer (almost) Pedro Martinez back, get Milton Bradley as a fourth outfielder, lure Albert Belle out of retirement, and then maybe sign O.J. Simpson for their broadcasting team. Sox fans have it all wrong: The Yankees are the empire, the Red Sox are just evil. You know what Schilling's defense against steroids is? "That's not roid rage, that's my natural personality!"

I'm glad he chose to stay in Boston; fans here respect him and I feel it's gonna be a great last year for him.

Now if we could get around to resigning Lowell...
