ESPN.com just reported that the RED SOX have upped the offer to include Jacoby Ellsbury in the trade for Johan Santana but will remove Jon Lester from the deal : http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=313808...

Earlier the same website said that the TWINS were not "impressed" with the Yankees offer including Hughes and if the RED SOX upped their offer it would most likely be a deal breaker in the SOX favor.

What does everyone think about it. I'd personally rather they include Buchholtz in the deal instead because I think that Ellsbury is the spark this team needed for the playoffs and willl help take them to another WS title in '08'.

Was the XFL prematurly killed because the NFL felt threatened and pulled strings with NBC to have them pull their support of the product subsequently causing it to fold without a TV outlet?

On Curt's Blog he made the announcement that he will be returning for 1 more year to end his career in a RED SOX uniform where he started as a prospect.

The deal looks like this.

$8 million in guaranteed base salary

$2 million in bonuses for 6 seperate weigh ins.

$3 million in IP incentives based on IP totals.

$1 million for receiving a Cy Young vote, any vote.

I am psyched because he is a true pro with alot of great leadership qualites to pass on to the younger pitchers and will have a very good year by the looks of what he did after he came of the DL this year.

I think the big achilles heal this year for the SOX was Dave Magadan as hitting coach. Papi even called "Papa Jack" for advice during the season when he was having trouble hitting! I think he's a big reason the players hit worse this year than any other.

Now than Don Mattingly is free I wonder if the SOX would go after him and dump Magadan. It would be even better than stealling away A-rod and you'd actually get something for the money.

Your team's season is over, and once again they were eliminated....just like the last 7 years. Why bother trying to bash the RED SOX whlle they're on their way another WS title? Not when they clearly had a better season and a better team?

It really make you look like poor sports.

Plus, shouldn't you all be lobbying for Steinbrenner & Cashman to coax Cal Ripken out of retirment with a 1 year, $47 Million dollar contract to get some pop back in the line up right about now?

At his age & w/ those career numbers he should be at the top of the YANKEES free agent list.

After all, A-ROD is leaving & Ol' Georgie won't stand for all these young guys and no SUPERSTARS to show off...

The RED SOX have an edge over both teams (I'm assuming AZ over CO because of these same reasons) in the 3 MAJOR things that always win in the post season:

1) STARTING PITCHING

2) CLOSER

3) CLUTCH HITTING

The RED SOX have performed better in all catagories this year over all three teams left in the post season.
