Ergonomics often falls under the category of 'safety' or 'medicine'. The science probably has made most of its advancements in cockpits of aircraft in the beginning, then moving to the factory environment.
Robotics is really an 'electromechanical' discipline, but unfortunately, is usually dominated by electronic engineers. The lack of mechanical aptitudes and knowledge is highly evident in the results.
Start with 'Control Systems' as a key phrase, with words like 'controllers', 'feedback loop', and 'human machine interface' or abbreviate with HMI or MMI (man machine interface). Computer Aided Manufacturing might help, and then individual components like servo motor controllers, stepping motors, position sensing, encoders, actuators, hydraulics, servovalves, etc.

Man, robotics and AI! AI was my favorite class. Have you seen Asimo? That robot is so cute and he can kind of follow commands.
