Wealthy is more than money, it's a state of mind where you are at peace. Someone may be rich but not wealthy. There is nothing wrong with money, what is wrong is the love of money. Tithing is a way to honor the Lord. The important thing is that you put God over all in your life ... put everything in the right perspective. If someone think that money is his salvation ... he miss the point. God is our salvation. This is normal that you aspire to build a financial foundation for your family, seek the kingdom of God first and everything will be given to you ... God knows where the gold is.

It is not mutually exclusive at all. You will be blessed for being charitable and paying your tithing even if you aren't rich, but I would venture a guess that there Christians are just as likely or more to be financially stable.

Good stewardship is taking care of your family now and their future. The bible tells us that a good steward leaves an inheritance down to the third generation. Sounds like a call to good financial planning to me. The bible does warn about living for money, but having money to live on is important. God does call "a few" to live contrary to this standard out of faith, but if you have not been called to it, then you should follow John Wesley's advice, "Make some; spend some; save some, give some."

For me the test is whether or not you are hoarding significant excess [as in unnecessary] wealth for long periods of time without giving from it to others. When we do that it represents fear for ourselves and a preference for more luxury than is reasonable at the expense of those with basic needs unmet.

That said, this concept of a reasonable standard of living varies from person to person. Can I have a hair dryer or do I need to give that up and let my hair dry naturally so someone can by a few lunches? See, I would say that the important thing is not what I own so much as where my heart is at. A little bit of pleasure taken in goods and services is fine, in my opinion, as long as it does not continuously place my selfish desires above the needs of others.

Not at all - the income levels of Christians are all across the board, just like any other religion.

You absolutely should be preparing and building a solid financial foundation for your family -- they are your responsibility.

God may entrust material wealth to the faithful for the purpose of channeling HIs grace to those they can help according to HIs will. It's hard to do charity without resources. But family first.

No, that is more prevelant in the Jewish community than it is in Christian communities. By far. Catholics are traditionally POOOOOOOR cuz they donate too much to churches, i mean they are starting to put debit card machines in churches. I'm sorry, that's just sad.

The divine purpose of abundance is to allow the option of generosity. Not all choose it.

Does the pope look poor to you?

What about all those televangelists? Think they're worried about their bank accounts?
