Why do showers in Canada have tub spouts in them?

I watch that show Holmes on Homes which is based in Cananda. When they show a shower with no tub they still install a tub spout close to the floor. Why????

Originally, the stall shower in our house was like that (in the US) it think the spout was to fill buckets for mopping etc.

i am a canadian plumber, and have installed about 200 showers in the past 6 years, in new and old homes. i have NEVER installed a tub spout on a shower.

the only thing i can think of, is if there is no tub in the house. i use my tub filler for filling all kinds of buckets, and larger vessels... so, if a house had no bath TUB in it, this would be a practical thing.

not many people in my trade have much respect for that show either, as they go overboard on a lot of issues for nothing quite often. i have seen them rip out an entire piping system, only to replace it with a different material. that was the ONLY change, and it was a silly one.

remember, just because it's on tv, doesn't make it right.

Hadn't noticed that, but I agree with your first answer--especially if the house has no bathtub, it would be awkward to fill a mop bucket from a showerhead and having a spout would solve that problem. -- though the first thing I always do in any shower is rip that off and put in a good hand held shower anyway.

I have seen many such features on passenger ships built in Europe.

I've seen in in a few houses. My shower does not have one.

Could be to allow draining the shower pipe or to provide a place to fill a bucket. But I do not know.
