Abandoning Yahoo Messenger altogether?

I'm ready to abandon Yahoo Messenger altogether. It just won't work longer thana few minutes at a time. It stops responding constantly. Its just not worth the effort anymore.

Is there another compatable Chat messenger platform that is compatable that I can still keep my old Yahoo buddies?

Update:

I have uninstalled Messenger, and Re-installed several times. This has no effect whatsoever. I've been in conversation with Yahoo to work on a resolution. There is none.

I give up.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

sorry to hear yahoo isn't working for you but i cant say this as im having a1 service with yahoo even better then it was before

allot of it has to be your settings or your isp provider, or even a firewall port, only other messenger i know to tel you is MSN live.

you cant try msn live and if you dont like it you can always try yahoo again, might be a good idea not to delete it until you are sure

hope this helped and good lcuk

Try uninstalling Yahoo Messenger then downloading it again:

    Click on: Start

    Click on: Control Panel

    Click on: Add/Remove Programs

Click on: Yahoo Messenger then remove

Download Messenger from one of the following links:

    For Mac:

    http://messenger.yahoo.com/mac.php

    For Windows Vista:

The new version of Yahoo Messenger just released (9.0 Beta):

You may have too many programs running in the background draining your system's resources. Tuneup Utilities 2007 is an excellent program which has a Start-up Manager Tool which you can use to disable unnecessary programs from automatically starting up when you boot or restart your computer: http://www.download.com/3000-2094_4-10698444.html

You could try Trillian, or, if you don't mind working through a browser, you can use Yahoo Messenger through a browser instead of installing a dedicated IM client. You'd lose the file transfer capability, but you'd also be less vulnerable to viruses.

You might just need to reinstall it, or get the newest version. I , however, had to get an older version on one of my pcs.....the newest version just wouldnt sign me in.

Check your firewall settings also. And, the connection settings in the Messenger Options.
