Would You Dye Your Nine Year Old Daughter's Hair ?

My neighbors nine year old daughter is a beautiful blonde and today when i went out side i was shocked to see that her hair was dyed a chestnut brown with red hightlights. Some one please tell me if think i am being old fashion ? Would you dye your 9 year old daughter's hair . I have a 15 year old daughter and the thought of changeing her hair color never crossed my mind.

    Hey,.... I'm 17 and a trainee hairdresser!

    I didn't dye my hair unto 15!

At college we are not aloud to dye kids hair under 12!

Personally i think it should be 16 really. You are 100% right 9 is well to young and the damger her hair will be in when she is 16 17 will be very very bad it will be like a 30 year old ladys!

Yeah sure. I dyed my hair (a little of it to see if I liked it) when I was maybe 10. It was permed at about 9. Then by 11, it was full head dyeing. Then through the years, back to perming, then on to bleaching (bad move for me), spiked hair, Sun-In (another bad move), more perming, a little shaving, more perming, then back to lots of dyeing. All with mom's approval. She always made sure I went to the salon for it. (except the sun-in obviously) I get bored easily with my hair - always have - so I do stuff to it. And I never had to whine. I asked. And if she thought it was okay, it was done. If she didn't like the idea, it didn't. In fact, she and I often had the same color done in the early years (my early years). My hair is very healthy and shiny - to the point that when I sold hair and skin care, customers always wanted to know what I used, but it wasn't the product. It's just my hair.

And what's wrong with brown with red highlights? That's my REAL color. I refuse to acknowledge the gray. 8^)

In my mom's words - It's just hair. It'll grow back.

Source(s): Currently dye free, but contemplating my next color.

If you want to continue to color your daughters hair, then nothing wrong with it. But it takes a lot of work to keep it up. A teenager is one thing, but I believe a child of nine is too young. Are you then sending a message to use makeup, etc. that is reserved for older gals? Are you prepared to buy the hair color that runs about $7 per application? That is if you can do it yourself. You need to retouch the roots at least once a month or more depending on the color you choose. Once you color the hair, you will need to continue with it, othewise you get several colors as its growing out and it doesn't look good.

on a nine year old, no. Maybe those temporary haircolours that wash out in like a week, but not like you described. I have seen people let there young daughter permantly dye there hair, even younger than nine though. My hairdresser was talking about how she disagrees with it.

No, never. It's like shaving your legs, once you start, you're in it for good (or til menopause when it slows growing!). A child should never, ever have to worry about "roots" for pete's sake.

I'm old fashioned, too. For instance, I don't believe that parents should put "holes" (piercings) in their children ears (or whatever they're piercing these days :-) until the child is old enough to decide if they want them for themselves. But that's JUST me.

Some people live out their desire to look good and be noticed through their children...hmmm...kind of sad...sounds like your neighbor. The child is learning at a young age to worry about the "outsides" instead of the "insides,"

NO!! Especially since you run the risk of seriously damaging the still developing hair folicle!!

The only time I would condone it was if it was to kill a lice infestation. That eases the process (it kills the lice and eggs and washes them out instead of having to come through the hair with that fine toothed come.) Even then you would dye the hair close to their shade already!

BTW- I googled to try and find links to support this and found a website where a woman asked "my son is almost 3 and I want to add highlights. is this ok?" and you thought 9 was bad.......

o no way, I won't be letting my child do that until she's at least 16. Even then I think I'd be hard pressed to let her do it. I myself did dye my hair at 15 but it was nicely done, not the shocking colors you see on kids today, makes me feel old when I say that lol!

    no...that is ridiculis.and i am 13..

i have light brown hair and i started dark blonde highlights that look very natural when i was 12. but dying a 9 year olds hair is just stupid. 11 or 12 is different...alot of changes take place in those 3 years.

OMG never!!! im 14 and have never died my hair. I have auburn hair. and i've always wanted blonde hair. but everyone says that you shouldn't die your hair until it starts to turn gray. and they tell me that ppl pay tonz of money trying to get my hair color. i guess you could call me old fashion 2, but shes 9!!! i think girls are cutest wen you preserve there innocence.
