It's real easy - just nuts and bolts. It would've been nicer if you said what engine you have, as there were three available that year. I assume it's the 3.0. Loosen the bolts that hold the alternator, and remove the belt, unless you have the 3.8, which you'll have to remove the belt then the alternator. Drain engine coolant through the petcock in the radiatior. Why am I saying all this? Just go to an autoparts store, buy a Chiltons manual, and follow it. The only key is to coat both sides of the pump gasket with an appropriate sealer. I had to remove the bolts holding the pump pulley in order to access one or two bolts of the pump. You'll get it once you try.

Its a transverse engine so you might have to loosen the trans mount if you cannot get to it from the side. It is not fun but they don't leave much room in the engine compartment for that. After you get to it loosen the bolts and the belt and remove the old water pump, scrape off the old gasket and apply high tack to the new water pump with the new gasket and a few starter bolts.

start up with the basics: verify the spark plugs and verify the firing order. it really is really elementary to position in the plug wires in opposite order on the distributor cap and the engine will nonetheless run. it is also elementary to get the plug wires crossed. be sure the direction of rotation of the dist. rotor, then get rid of the oil fill cap from the valve conceal, and slowly turn the engine over on the crankshaft with the passenger wheel off. Have someone seek for the exhaust rocker arm to drop, then turn crankshaft one hundred eighty CCW, so that you recognize you're at TDC #a million, then verify the plug wiring order. If it really is sweet, verify for difficulty codes. Ford's OBD-I codes are kept in 2 thoughts: Key On Engine Off and Key On Engine Run. purchase a code reader that verify for difficulty codes on OBD-I and OBD-II automobiles: it will pay for itself very promptly. test the computer for KOEO and KOER codes. you should locate something. next time, let us know that you've the three.8 so we do no longer ought to wager.
