is it possible for a neutering to be unsuccessful if the testicles have been removed?

My puppy went into heat before i could fix her and my senior dog has been fixed for years. About a week ago I found them "stuck together" and I am now worried my little girl may be prego because her nipples are protruding. She's a house dog so she hasn't had access to any other dogs. I'm worried because she's too young too have puppies!

If you know that both testicals dropped before surgery and that both were removed then there is no problem. We have had a case at the clinic i work where someone took there dog to be neutered at another clinic then a few months later noticed a lump in the abdomen and brought it to us for surgery. When opened up we realized it was a retained testical that never dropped and the vet didn't bother to look for it during the neuter. If this is a possibility in your case, then your female could get pregnent, if not then you shouldn't worry. She could be going through a false pregnancy since she did tie with a male. Its a psychological temperment that sometimes happens after heat. She may even adopt a toy for a while like its her baby and her teets will swell and some even produce milk. This will pass eventually, just ignore her, let her do her own thing. Also after she goes out of heat talk to your vet about when would be the best time to spay so this don't continue to happen. It she has false pregnancys alot it can increase her chances of mammery tumors some cancers.

Some vets leave the testes there, think of it like a male human getting a vasectomy, they don't necessarily have to be removed to become sterile. The testosterone is still being produced so he'll probably still act like an un-neutered male. And certain people shouldn't be so quick to answer no considering here the vets leave them in cats as well, which is preferred by most people because it doesn't change the animal. Once those hormones are no longer produced in the animal many changes can occur in personality, weight, working skills, etc. And since this post doesn't specify the place or origin, how do you know they don't live where it's a common practice?

The only possible way for him to still be able to impregnate her is if one of his testicles wasn't descended. The vet who performed the neutering would have had to miss that, somehow, and left it there. Usually that causes a very low sperm count so even if that were the case, pregnancy is not very likely, but not impossible!

She's probably just experiencing a false pregnancy. If you don't want puppies, I'd suggest getting her spayed so you don't have to worry about her in the future.

No way for a neutering to be unsuccessful if the testicles are gone (this is a tough surgery to get wrong honestly). Your female is having a false pregnancy, which is common, or else she got into it with another male somehow. And neutered males can still occasionally tie but he can't get her pregnant.

Source(s): I work with a humane society and we do spays and neuters weekly. The average neuter takes a vet about 10-15 minutes and can be done blindfolded with one hand behind his/her back. No way they got it wrong.

Now, your neutered dog cannot produce Sperm to impregnate the female dog. They can however achieve a "tie". So don't worry about it. ..but make sure you fix her soon because she will still emit hormones and scents that will make even neutered male dogs aggressive, act out, or misbehave.

The only way this could be is if he had a retained testicle and the vet didn't get it. When a male ejaculates it causes part of his penis to swell causing them to be stuck together so if this happened your male still has one of his boys that must be retained that means it didn't drop down in place with the other one.

getting a dog neutered doesn't make it impossible for a male dog to have sex it makes it impossible for it to produce puppies. you have nothing to worry about from you male but if your female isn't fixed she could either be just going through symptoms of having her cycle or it's always possible another male managed to get to her if you left her outside in the yard unattended

Neutered dogs are capable mating but don't have the ability to produce pups. It is unlikely she is pregnant unless another male tied with her.

Take her to the vet. If BOTH testicles were removed several years ago then no he can't have inseminated her. If they missed part of one or a whole one then yes he could have.

IF a dog has no testicles, he cannot impregnant a female.
