Does anyone have experience building their own irons?
Any component brand you would reccommend or avoid? Thanks.
Thanks MPLS Golfer, any recommendations for an iron shaft? 5 iron speed about 80 mph.
Thanks MPLS Golfer, any recommendations for an iron shaft? 5 iron speed about 80 mph, trajectory is OK as is. Was thinking about the FST Pro White from Golf Galaxy. And considering the Golfsmith G -series head.

Yes I put all my own stuff (ping)together. I am a avid golf equipment guy though. In my honest thoughts I think you can throw almost any iron or driver head on a good shaft and create a good quality club. I don't know if you have a golfsmith store where you live but they have some good component stuff. Snake Eyes, Lynk's, and their own line also. You have to find the right one clubhead for you. If you are looking for forgivness you should go with a iron with a wider sole with offset, and if you are a better player they have forged blade irons with less offset also. They have probally 30 different choices in clubheads. They also sell almost every kind of shaft.
Source(s): 3.8 handicap, high school golf team coach, and home club builder 20 + sets and counting. Straight out of the golfsmith catalog 5-iron swing speed of 70-80 carry distance of 160-180? close? Driver at the same speed 200-230 carry. Puts you right between stiff and regular steel shafts. Stiffer for accuracy and more flex for distance. Light weight for more hand speed and heavy for more accuracy. Basicly the project-x shafts (125grams)are the most popular but at 240 for 8 shafts? Dyanmic Gold True tempers (heavy 130grams or superlite 106 grams $90ish) Shafts are harder to get right the first time for the right fit, but just talk to the people there and you should be able to get really close. Might be smart to try one from each (of 2 or 3) so you only waste like 15-30 instead of buying a whole set and wasting the whole amount. Until I knew what I liked it took me 3 sets before they were perfect. I don't know your swing so I can't tell you exactly which ones are for you. Just post again if you want more help!!
