Should I feel movement by now?

I am 20 weeks pregnant with our second baby and I don't feel any movements. Is this normal? I am a little overweight; could that have something to do with it?

Update:

I have a doctor appt. next Thursday. I was just wondering if anyone else has the same thing.

that may have something to do with it,but do keep an eye on it.My 3rd child scared me all the time she must have been awake while I was asleep.I hardly ever felt her move and was relived when I went to the doctors and heard her heart beat.

Try just nudging your belly a little not hard but like playing wise that would get mine going.Hard but it worked my daughter just loved sleeping.Maybe that is why she never sleeps now at 1 1/2 years old.Just get it checked to be on the safe side.

Hi there! I am a mother of 4 lovely children and each was felt at different stages, one 18 wks, one 24 wks, one 20 weeks and the other one I can't remember!!! So it is normal to be different with each child. Some doctors have a dopler sound thing that they put on your abdomen and you can hear the baby's heart beat. I wouldn't worry yet but if you really are worried go and see your doctor and he will be able to put your fears to rest. All the best! Take care.

Yes, its normal...your baby is still so very small. Probably only about 6-8 inches long. Its more normal to feel a 'flutter' in your belly than kicking. Also...maybe your baby is more active when you are sleeping...and he is not big enough to wake you up yet! Call your doctor or hospital nurse to ask them what they think......it's better to be worry free. They wont mind...I bet your local hospital has a maternity ward with a nurse waiting by the phone to answer questions like that!

Yes, this is normal, especially in over-weight women. when I had my first child I weighed only 115 pounds, there was no room in my stomach for my son; so I could feel him almost every second of the day. However, with my daughter I weighed 150 pounds and by the time I hit 20 weeks I weighed 185 pounds; I hardly ever felt her move so I talked to my doctor and she said it was because I had gained so much weight. But if this continues to bother you then you should talk with your doctor.

    Hope this helps! :-)

With my first pregnancy I was about that far along before I felt any movement. If you have had your monthly check up and things were fine, they are probably fine now, but if you are concerned, just call your doctor and they can do an ultrasound or just check for the heartbeat. Just relax and enjoy it!

You should feel movement 16-20wks being over weight might be the problem that you don't feel the little butterfly feeling yet.If your doctor is not worried and can find a heartbeat don't worry everything is cool. You will feel movement very shortly.

If you are going to your OB/GYN visits like you are suppose to your doctor will be able to tell you if everything is ok. I'm sure you will begin to feel your baby move soon. Please, if you are AT ALL concerned, give your dr a call. You may feel like a nuisance to your dr but that is his/her job and this is a matter of safety for your child. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and enjoy that baby when it gets here.

You may be feeling it and just not sure that it is fetal movement. When I was pregnant with my son, his movements made me feel like I had gas, rather than little kicks. In any case, a ultrasound should be definate!

Try playing your music loud. Something with a positive tune. If that does'nt work, try gently poking him/her. If no results and your doctor says everything is ok, then count your lucky stars! Cause it sounds like you are going to have a baby that sleeps through the night from the get go. WOO-HOO! :)

    dear mj ,

    congrats on the pregnency .

In my opinion you should probably hev felt some movement . although this information does not mean anyhting untill you consult a physican and i suggest that happens write away . and no being over weight would not have any affect on this .

    best of luck !
