What is Yitzhak Rabin's real legacy?

In the Knesset (Israel's parliament) on October 5, 1995, former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin declared:

"Here, in the land of Israel, we returned and built a nation. Here, in the land of Israel, we established a state. The land of the prophets, which bequeathed to the world the values of morality, law and justice, was, after two thousand years, restored to its lawful owners - the members of the Jewish people. On its land, we have built an exceptional national home and state.

"We view the permanent solution in the framework of State of Israel which will include most of the area of the Land of Israel as it was under the rule of the British Mandate, and alongside it a Palestinian entity which will be a home to most of the Palestinian residents living in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

"We will not return to the 4 June 1967 lines.

"First and foremost, united Jerusalem ... as the capital of Israel, under Israeli sovereignty.

Update:

"The security border of the State of Israel will be located in the Jordan Valley ... The establishment of blocs of settlements in Judea and Samaria, like the one in Gush Katif.

"We had to choose between the whole of the land of Israel ... and a state with less territory, but which would be a Jewish state. We chose to be a Jewish state.

"... the primary obstacle today, to implementing the peace process between us and the Palestinians, is the murderous terrorism of the radical Islamic terrorist organizations...

"... we ... committed ourselves before the Knesset, not to uproot a single settlement in the framework of the interim agreement, and not to hinder building for natural growth.

"We are aware of the fact that the Palestinian Authority has not - up until now - honored its commitment to change the Palestinian Covenant, and that all of the promises on this matter have not been kept.

Update 2:

" I would like to bring it to the attention of the members of the house that I view these changes as a supreme test of the Palestinian Authority's willingness and ability, and the changes required will be an important and serious touchstone vis-א-vis the continued implementation of the agreement as a whole."

Update 3:

Ultra N says that he hopes not. But what does he hope not?

.

Update 4:

Duke of Tudor misses the point. When they gave the Nobel Prize to the arch-terrorist Arafat, most of the world understood that he Oslo Plan was a farce. Except for Shimon Peres, everyone else has figured that out by now.

But Rabin was onto that earlier, and for that reason met his untimely death.

Thank you for pointing out that Rabin did not trust the Arab organizations and realized that they were in fact terrorists.

Note that some leftists have tried to get us to thing that he did.

It is always good to go back to the sources to investigate what people actually said and not what others would have liked them to say.

For his role in the creation of the Oslo Accords, Yitzhak Rabin was awarded the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize, along with Yasser Arafat and Shimon Peres. Rabin was also awarded the 1994 Ronald Reagan Freedom Award by the late President's wife, Former First Lady Nancy Reagan. The award is only given to "those who have made monumental and lasting contributions to the cause of freedom worldwide," and who "embody President Reagan's lifelong belief that one man or woman truly can make a difference."

A national memorial day for Rabin is set on the date of his death according to the Jewish calendar. The square where he was assassinated, Kikar Malchei Yisrael (Kings of Israel Square), was renamed Kikar Rabin. Streets and public institutions have been named for him all over Israel.

After his assassination, Rabin was hailed as a national symbol and came to embody the Israeli peace camp ethos, despite his military career and hawkish views earlier in life. He is buried on Mount Herzl, next to his wife Leah.

I'm not really big on self hating Jews like Rabin who sold out his own people for a few Shekels

He was going along our path until near the end of his life.

But he turned against us out of some suspicion. We did not regret his sudden departure.
