Key-less entry key question. Jetta 2005?

I have taken apart the key, comes apart in half. One part has the key, the lower half has the buttons and I assume the battery. My questions is how do you replace the battery?

On my Mercedes I just take it apart and replace 2 button batteries. On the jetta key I can't seem to find the battery. No contacts exposed and don't know if I can break the case down any farther. Is the battery sealed in the lower half and proprietary by any chance?

There is one or two batteries in the unit depending upon who manufactured the unit you have. You need to seperate the lower half of the keyless entry assembly (the one with the buttons on it), it will split apart and you will be able to see the batter(ies) once the lower case half is split apart. Use a fingernail (or something stronger but thin) to separate the back cover part from the portion that contains the buttons.

If you have any doubt, take it to the parts department of your local VW dealership, they'll replace the batteries for the cost of the batteries. At the dealership that i was at, we replaced those batteries all the time for the cost of parts.

Hope this helps, a car nut.

The link with the pics is very good. Just make sure that you don't lose the transponder while taking it apart. Its a very tiny piece.
