What do things cost in Mexico?

I'm going with my family, and I'm just wondering what the average cost of typical stuff is in Pesos...

Are things cheaper then they are in the US?

Hmmmm I dont know where posters in this forum went. There is no bargaining here in Mexico in stores. There is bargaining if you are buying a hand knitten blouse or some other craft from an indigenous in the market....

Depending on where you go, most things are cheaper... but for example cars cost twice as much here... clothing, way more expensive here... electronics, appliances, etc are also a lot more expensive that in the US.. but I take it you're not planning on buying a car or a laptop here, so you can consider mexico to be cheaper.

Monterrey, Cancun and Mexico City are not that cheap... food in restaurants is probably 15% cheaper here (comparing similar qualities)

    Taxis, cheaper

    Airfares, more expensive

Food in the supermarket, very similar

    Gasoline, very similar

    Small hotels, cheaper

    Large hotels, similar

you can't really compare the cost of an item in one currency to the cost of an item in another currency. More or less, look at it like this.

1 Mexican peso = 0.092408 U.S. dollars. If something is 1 US dollar here, and 1 Peso in mexico, than it is cheaper in Mexico.

I went to Mexico this last September. Things are definitely cheaper than they are here in the states. My advice' be good at haggling with prices and take traveler checks so if you loose your money or it's stolen you can get it back 'cause you don't really need to exchange money into pesos. They love American money down there and most of them deal in it anyway.

Way cheaper! You just need to bargain with them.
