Is it normal for my dove to coo so much?
Please only answer if you have personal experiences owning doves.
I have had my dove for a couple months now. In the beginning he was very shy of us and very quiet. Now he is much more comfortable with my fiance and I- he perches on our hands and likes to be near us. However, our biggest issue is his incessant cooing. Sometimes he'll coo for ten minutes straight without stopping. Right now he is the only dove we have. We didn't want to get him a mate because I've heard that if they have another dove to interact with they will not bond with their human owners. I try to make the best life for him I can, but I worry that he is lonely during the day since both my fiance and I work. I do leave a mirror in the cage, though, when he is home alone so he has some kind of company. Also, when we are home, he gets free range of the house. I've tried removing the mirror, leaving the mirror. We've tried "cooing" back at him when he starts cooing. Is it normal for him to be so vocal?

I got one dove from the pet store over a year ago, there was only two in the cage. She was sweet and cooed normally, but every time I went back to the pet store I saw the other dove that was all alone, and I felt so bad for separating them so I brought the other one home. They are both girls, and ever sense I reunited them they have not been quiet. They coo all through the day and night and keep my family awake. As to if this is normal or not, I'm sorry I don't know. But I just wanted to share my personal experience with my doves. If there is someone out there who knows how to make them be quiet, I would love to know.
