what is the standard used fro inspection of material elevator.?

Is safety device (emergency braking system) a requirement? I am talking of material elevator not passenger elevator

    I would speculate yes, but you might be able to verify if you can get hold of ASME A17.1, 2004 I think is the most current version for the U.S.

    Probably the braking is required not for the material, but for the presence of workers below working in the shaft or fixing electrical/etc.

    Alternately try to contact a material elevator manufacturer or designer and ask them if it is a standard feature or an accessory you have to buy.
