1991 Ford Escort GT starting problem.?
My son's 1991 Ford Escort GT runs good, has had alternator and battery replaced, but sometimes will not start. It's a 5-speed and if he push starts it, it will start. This seems to be an intermittant problem. Starter? Does it have a solinoid? Any help will be appreciated.

when he tries to start it does it just make a clicking noise? if it does it is more than likely the solenoid is bad. i also suggest checking to make sure all the battery cables are clean as that can also cause this problem

Like you said its prob the starter or solinoid. Take a hammer and tap the starter and see if that works. I think places like autozone ect will test these type of things for free. But you have to remember its a 1991 ford escort and is prob about dead anyway.

Sounds like the starter or solenoid, but ti could also ge the actual ignition switch that has worn out. This is a common problem for Fords (I had it in my 89 Escort GT and my 01 Focus.) Get the starter checked first - it's easier to test, and the ignition switch is not cheap - and it's a pain to access.
Good luck!

ITS MOST LIKELY THE STARTER ASSEMBLY BUT BEFORE YOU REPLACE IT MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE AT LEAST 12.5 VOLTS GOING TO IT.
