Universal Health care.. Your Opinion on competing proposals?

I think our health care system is seriously flawed.

I have two links below to proposals from leading presidiential candidates. What do you think of the proposals?

Update 2:

I do not see Universal care as Socialism or the end of capitalism. If anything I think it could be a return to Capitalism. I think the present system has pretty much been gamed by the industry much like the energy market in California was gamed by industry under the initial round of de-regulation.

Update 3:

Thanks for the link to Kusinich's proposal. I had not looked at yet. I will now.

Update 4:

Thanks for the links to Obama's proposal as well.

Update 5:

Thanks to the link to the Cato institute. I have read that report. While I agree with them on some items I disagree with them on the Schip report... but I digress...

It is not the end to capitalism as stated before. Almost all the europen countries and canada have universal health care and they are not totally socialist, not to mention they rank higher in health care than we do. What people don't understand is that if a country was pure socialistic, that there would be goverment owned businesses (like the electric company and the water companies would be govermently owned) and there would be no private property.

Well I don't really like either of the candidates and I am completely against any government mandated health insurance. What we need is to really let the free market work and empower individuals to be able to access cheaper health insurance across state lines (which can't be done now). That will help make health insurance more consumer friendly in that it expands free market competition.

I've left a link from an article by the Cato Institute describing why we shouldn't have SCHIP and how the expansion of government's role in health care will just cause more people to become dependent on the government (which really hurts the poor).

there are no good proposals at present. much noise is made about "socialized medicine", however, did you know that, right now, health care is not part of the "free market" and is not a capitalistic/competitive industry? hospitals that wish to open and compete with existing hospitals have to get APPROVAL from the government by proving to officials that such a endeavor is "necessary to the community"

why? because capitalism does not work when applied to health care, just as it would not when applied to the military, police, or fire departments. some things, of necessity, must be provided and regulated for a societies citizens for the public good.

I think that by the time they get either one to the senate floor there will be so many more people eligible that they won't be able to pass it for lack of money.

I also think that any proposal that does not start with our government & politicians benefits is worthless as our costs/taxes will go through the roof and they will still be exempt from reality.

One of the main reasons our insurance is so expensive is that the government is sold policies BELOW costs to keep their union happy. The loss from their policies are passed on to those of us that still provide insurance.

How anyone thinks that a person who doesn't feel pain (or see reality) can fix a problem is beyond me. Same as for social security. It doesn't effect them, so they haven't a clue on how to fix it.

Kind of like asking the wolf to suggest fixes for the hen house, isn't it?

one appears to be catering to big business, like usual, but really saying nothing how the individual will be helped.

The other wishes requirements, that should not be required.

neither one really gives any real answers.

I like this one myself....where small businesses get a nice size cut of the benefits for offering health insurance. the coverage is portable, and provided by private industry, where it doesn't require the fed to know anything about you other than you are insured and have a SS #.

Expanding medicare to everyone would bankrupt many hospitals and medical offices. You would see significantly less money devoted then to research and thus, less new drugs and tech. Thats what you get with Kusinich's plan.

  • I like Dennis J. Kucinich's proposal to simply expand medicare to cover everybody. The infrastructure is already in place.

Go ahead and vote in Universal (Tax Payor) Health Care. I guarantee, you'll be so sorry you did. But do it anyway. You deserve it.

Universal Health Care is the end of capitalism.

That's just what this election is about -- a socialist takeover.
