I live with my brother and we both like to cook and bake. He works nights and I work days, so we each cook for ourselves most of the time.

My brother and I both bake a lot of bread. We also make a lot of breakfast breads (muffins, pumpkin bread, zucchini bread, biscuits, pancakes, waffles, etc.) instead of buying them. My brother especially likes to make multi-grain recipes. He also likes Asian foods. He grows mint every year, for his tea. He also likes to experiment, for example, he's currently working on revamping a pumpkin soup recipe.

I prefer to make Italian and Germanic foods. I like coffee as well as tea, and love homemade hot cocoa. I bake treats to take in to the office as well as for us at home, so I experiment a lot with cakes, brownies, quickbreads, cookies, that kind of thing.

and between 2-4 gallons of drinking water. Our town's water supply is safe to use, but not very tasty. We cook with town water, but generally drink filtered water and also make coffee, tea, lemonade, etc. with the filtered.

We also almost always have ice, butter, coffee (ground and whole bean), green beans, peas, and mixed fruit as well as fish (usually pollock, whiting, and/or cod) and chicken in the freezer. Other things vary over time.

spuds / onions / tomatoes / several bulk tins of dried soup /

pasta, rice, lentils, beans and pulses, around 50 or so herbs and spices. and whatever is fresh and in season. carrots courgettes, celery, parsnips, broccoli, cabbage, aubergines and we also buy 5k of mushrooms at a time, and theres always 5 star lockjaw cheese in the fridge...

oh, were vegetarians... and we cook everything. we buy ingredients, not snack food.

and with that lot we can cook pretty much whatever we want, chilli, curry, stews and pasta bakes, cheese n potato pie... mmmm pizza, real pasta, loads of different fried rice and noodle dishes... it costs us around 50 quid a week, for 4... and believe me, we eat well. in fact the only thing we buy is ready made is bread, and dairy products

Tinned tomatoes, tinned tuna, pulses, tinned pineapple, tinned anchovies. Butter, eggs, cheese (strong cheddar). Potatoes, onions (there's always Spanish omelette...). That's basically it.

Lentils, they're so quick to cook. Tomatoes and garlic, spaghetti, oatcakes, bread, oats, milk.

    Cheap and healthy!
