On a warm, dry and clean racetrack, can a RWD car possibly beat an AWD car in a race?

...assuming both cars have approximately equal weight and power and that the race track has a good number of turns. If yes, why? If not, then why do popular motorsports (F-1..etc) only allow RWD?

Of course RWD can beat AWD. RWD is a lot lighter. As long as the driver is experienced and can get good traction they will be all set. A drag race may favor an AWD if they are both stock, but as far as racecars go RWD is the only way.

AWD has a greater tendency to understeer causing the awd driver to have to slow more for the corners.
