breeding slider turtles?

I have 3 slider turtles, all around 2 years old. Recently both of the male turtles have been 'flirting' with the female (vibrating their claws on the females head). I have been told that my turtles should not be sexually mature until 5 - 8 years old... So whats going on? Is it possible they will still mate at such a young age?

If they do mate, what do I need to do? I have heard they will need a 12inch deep area of sand to lay the eggs. They are in an indoor tank, no deep sand! Can I simply provide an area inside the tank with sand, maybe a small glass tank within the main tank?

They are showing signs of agression. DO NOT breed your turtles. There are already enough sliders that dont have homes. If you want more, go adopt.

YOU HAVE to seperate your turtles NOW! They are really going to start hurting eachother. Your tank may be to small, you need 10 gallons of water for every inch of shell your turtle has so if you have 25 inches of shell combined with your turtles you will ned at least a 300 gallon tank.

Still you HAVE to seperate your turtles.

    hi there

it's true they are too young ... but they will do practise the mating racial ... this is normal..

he just telling her he the king....

if they do mate u need to get a huge tank and make a half and half tank ... by gluing a piece of glass or plex from side to side with fish tank silicone .. so the water doesn't get into the soil and soil doesn't get in the water...

a mixture of peat, soil and sand works great...

the depth should be approx 1/2 the length of the shell min. deeper is better..

    hope this helps
