Which city is better? Melbourne or Brisbane?
Hi.I'm asking this question from the residents of Australia.
I'm coming to Australia next year for my higher studies.I'm considering Melourne and Brisbane, but I havent decided which one I'm going to.And I'll also have to do a part time job there. And I'm looking for a city with a lower cost of living and good facilities.I've heared that Melbourne has a higher cost of living and It's hard to find a part time job there. Is that true?If you are a resident of Australia, please tell me which city is better. And please tell me what kind of a degree I should do because I intend to do a permenant job in Australia after graduation and I have no idea about your country's job market.I'm considering of doing Information technology - Networking or Hotel Management.Do these feilds have demanding job oppertunities? Which degree do you recommend?
Thanks.

G'day,
I am an ex-international student in Australia and currently living in Melbourne. Yes, Melbourne is slightly more expensive than Brisbane, but I dun think it differ very much. Part time jobs is equally hard to find anywhere in Australia for international students. I have done house/office cleaners, data entry, newspaper sorter and junk-mail deliveries.
As comparison, below are 2 websites from universities in Brisbane & Melbourne for your comparison.
In regards to profession, it changes from time to time and there's no guarantee that what in demands now will be the same in the next... 2yrs? However the 3rd weblink will show you what's currently in demand in Australia. If I can recommend, then hospitality industry may be the way to go, as long as you can enjoy it. Check the 4th weblink from a TAFE college in Melbourne.
Now I am living in Melbourne and this is what I can say:
1. First of all... some people do not like the weather in Melbourne (you can have 4 seasons in one day). However, if you read the second weblink from The Age newspaper, you will find out that the weather is still more preferable than the other cities. Sure you can have 42C day in summer, but almost immediately you'll get a much cooler weather pretty soon afterwards. It is very rarely that you got 2 or 3 consecutive days of hot weathers (unlike Sydney, Brisbane or Perth).
2. Melbourne is a city of diversity. If you are a newcomer, and you do not look 'Anglo-Saxon', you do not feel like an 'alien', since you can find almost every race in the world walking in the city. They are both immigrants and overseas students.
3. THE FOOD!! Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Thai, All-you-can-eat, African, Lebanese, Mexican, Sea Food... anything else? All available and lots of them in a very-very-very affordable price
4. Pretty good public transport system. With one ticket, you can switch from train, tram and bus. They do not always come on-time, but still reliable and improving (www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au). Good for students, since not all can afford car.
5. SHOPPING!!! Original branded clothing sold very cheap. There are even shopping tour, where the participants are taken to retails outlets just for shopping. Big temptations for ladies.
6. Night Life... hmmmm... I'll say the centre of nite activities will be Crown Casino and Docklands. Altho there are still plenty of cafe's and clubs scattered around the suburbs as well.
7. Tourist attraction. This is the area that I think Sydney is better than Melbourne, since it has most of it's attraction within its suburbs. Most Melbourne attraction are pretty much out of Melbourne, such as the gold mines in the cities of Bendigo and Ballarat, The Great Ocean Road, Lakes Entrance, Grampians, skiing in Mt. Buller etc.
Hope this helps. E-mail me at mikegun(at)studentfirst.com.au if you have any further queries abt Australia. Good luck on your studies :)

of route all of us will say which one they stay in is wonderful notwithstanding the real answer is they are diverse. a million. widely used probable melbourne because there are extra concepts for each little thing through the indisputable fact that is a city with 2x extra human beings. 2. Melbourne receives less warm and has extra different seasons. Brisbane is sorta warm (30+) for 4 months, in between (25 - 30) for 6 months and chilly (19/20) for 2 months 3. Melbourne destroys Brisbane in this way. 4. Melbourne is a more suitable city and has extra concepts for this yet both are 2M+ cities so both have those concepts. 5. Brisbane, yet again both have concepts in all diverse sorts depending how a lot you're waiting to take the trains/trams
