What do you think of Andy Murray's decision to split from coach Brad Gilbert?

Every other player Gilbert coached (Agassi, Roddick for example) reached their peak (#1 in the world) when with Gilbert, then went down in the rankings after they split with him. Do you think Andy should have stayed with Gilbert, and do you think he will follow in the steps of Agassi and Roddick and take a dive in the rankings?

It's a pity. His play is getting better since Brad Gilbert became his coach.

Brad Gilbert is credited with taking Andre Agassi to the next level and is generally regarded as one of the best minds in the business. Even when Gilbert was a player, he only had modest talent but was somehow winning matches against top guys like Becker because of his great mind and positive attitude. The LTA paid him that money because they hoped he would do with Murray what he did with Agassi. Things didn't work simply because Murray doesn't have Agassi's talent. Don't forget, the LTA has alot to gain from Murray's success. A successful Brit on tour could inspire more British children to pick up the sport in a country which has a dearth of talent and that is starving for a home grown champion. It would also greatly boost ticket sales and media coverage should Murray do well at Wimbledon. So investing in Murray really is investing in the future of British/Scottish tennis.

I wonder if Murray did it because the LTA decided to stop footing Gilbert's bill? Don't forget, the British Lawn Tennis Association was paying Gilbert's $900,000 salary and they may have asked Murray to start paying his own way since he can now afford it. And if I were Murray and calling the shots, I wouldn't spend that kind of money on one coach that's already taught me everything he knows. Bottom line, Gilbert had done everything he could for Murray and it wasn't worth continuing the relationship, especially at that incredibly high price. Better to spend that money (or less) on a new group of coaches and trainers.

Not sure why.. only Andy would know. Brad Gilbert may be a good coach but he's a horrible commentator. If his performance in front of the camera is any indication of his coaching character, I'd dump him to.

I hope Safin picks him up and becomes one of the best players on tour again. By the way, karmaschizo are you sure you are not mistaken Gilbert with another announcer because Brad Gilbert is probably the best tennis commentator I ever heard.
