what is the best brand of oil filter?
In terms of performance and/ or durability. I drive a Dodge Ram and I have used a few different brands wondering if there is one that is better than the rest

wix is a great brand.. used by myself and my father for years.. and anytime we have torn down a motor that we have used wix filters and havoline oil in there has been no sludge no matter the # of miles on engine.... the only brand I strictly warn against is fram !!!!!!
personally seen several cases of premature engine failure due to fram the allow a grainy build up in the oil that stops up the oil screen on the pump pick up tube, and if not caught engine blows

It just depends upon your habits and oil. If you change oil at 3 to 4,000 miles, just about any filter will suffice. If you use synthetic oil and extend changes to over 7,000, you need a good quality, low micron rated, high capacity filter. In my limited research, I have found that Amsoil has a synthetic filter that is probably the best and the most expensive. Wix is likely the best and most easily found. They are at O'Reilys and at NAPA Auto Parts stores as their NAPA Gold filter.

Your oil is in your engine for 3-7,000 miles(on proper maintance). Any basic filters, even the cheap Fram, is more than suficient. The oil is more important. Slug protection or high milage oils are good, in my opinion.

K&N hands down. I had a Jeep Cherokee and switched to the K&N and gained 5-10 psi at idle and 20 psi at speed and it still kept oil clean. Plus the 1 inch socket on the end makes it easier to get out

If you stick with fram you will always be safe, they have been around for years.
