The Canadians won.
Attacking together for the first time, the four Canadian divisions stormed the ridge at 5:30am on 9 April 1917. More than 15,000 Canadian infantry overran the Germans all along the front. Incredible bravery and discipline allowed the infantry to continue moving forward under heavy fire, even when their officers were killed. There were countless acts of sacrifice, as Canadians single-handedly charged machine-gun nests or forced the surrender of Germans in protective dugouts. Hill 145, the highest and most important feature of the Ridge, and where the Vimy monument now stands, was captured in a frontal bayonet charge against machine-gun positions. Three more days of costly battle delivered final victory. The Canadian operation was an important success, even if the larger British and French offensive, of which it had been a part, had failed. But it was victory at a heavy cost: 3,598 Canadians were killed and another 7,000 wounded.

I was going to suggest the creeping barrage (smoke screen) but now that I look, this battle was the first time it was used. WW1 attacks generally had days of heavy bombing that suddenly went silent so the troops could attack. Problem is the bombing did little, except to warn the enemy that with all the bombing in this concentrated area, it was a candidate for attack and we better be ready with reinforcements. Then when the guns go silent the enemy comes out of their bunkers as they know the attack is coming. At Vimy ridge, they kept firing. They bombed just ahead of their attacking troops creating a smoke screen.
So if that is what he learned you can't use that. Some other advice is to have the heavy barrage in other areas of the front, as a diversion. They will expect the attack there, and may leave a weaker force at Vimy. Meanwhile, use troops to tunnel under the enemy lines and pack in TNT to blow it up. This tactic was also used during WW1, so it isn't far fetched. Start your attack at the same time as the blast. You can't allow time for the enemy to regroup.

The conflict of Vimy Ridge replaced into area of the better conflict of Arras, which replaced right into a British offensive against the Germans. The conflict at Arras replaced into the initiating of a French plan spoke of as the Nivelle Offensive, which replaced into meant to added approximately a speedy victory for the Allies against the Germans. It failed. The conflict of Vimy Ridge is substantial for Canada by way of fact it replaced into the 1st time that Canadian squaddies fought at the same time as a cohesive unit. that's between the substantial milestones in the form of Canada's identification as a separate usa.
