Holes in drywall filled with construction adhesive. How to repair?
The previous owners of my home used gooey construction adhesive to fill holes in the drywall.
One bathroom has drywall damage repaired in a variety of ways -- all bad. I need advice on each repair!
1) Screw/ nail holes filled with gooey/ stretchy construction adhesive (like from a caulk gun). These were painted over, but are now soft buldges.
2) Doorknob hole, patched with mesh. However, they didn't mud (and sand) over the mesh, just painted it. The mesh is dented, too, and pulled loose.
3) A towel rod (I think) was hung, and re-hung. There are a variety of metal anchors and the plastic screw anchors, but I can't manage to pull any of them out of the wall cavaties -- unless I damage more of the wall. Do I bite the bullet, yank them out, and then repair the larger holes -- or hammer them in, and patch over them?
Overtop all these bad repairs, has been applied a chocolate brown shiny latex paint. Needless to say, brown is NOT a good color for a bathroom!

Easy way: Take a hammer & dent in all defects...Larger ones just get all lumpy protrusions past face of wall. Mesh over larger holes. Use dry wall mud & a broad knife to mud , several coats if necessary.
Fasteners ? bash 'em in too. But be sure to remount fixtures clear of repairs.
Ugly brown walls : don't forget to use a good primer for $$ & labor economy. Several coats will be needed to be able to cover with only 1 or 2 coats of finish paint. That brown will show through any light color paint unless well primed. Prime will also insure good paint adhesion on shiny surface.

best thing to do is re-do them all, the mesh tape is the best, clean everything out and apply the mesh tape then one coat of mud, let dry at least 12 hours, lightly sand and add another coat of mud, sand and apply the final skim cost. when you put screws in the wall with anchors, always pre-drill the holes and use a good anchor.

easiest might be to cut a bigger hole for each one and repair them properly.
then paint the whole room
