Why does music effect your mood?

I find it strange...I could be in the worst of form and put on a real dancy cd and all of a sudden my mood lifts or if I put on a slow song cd it could make me weepy etc...

Does music have this effect on you

Worryingly it affects the way i'm driving.

I have noticed that if the music is a real rock sort of song i tend to drive harder and more aggressively, something laid back gets me to relax and slow down.

Just as wel i don't listen to punk or i'd be gobbing on pedestrians out of the window!

Psychologists think that this reaction we often have to music is sometimes learnt in the womb, when music is overheard for the period of pregnancy. It is certainly associated with our brain reacting to a certain beat or melody, and of course to our emotions at the time of listening to the music.

I tend to get moving on the dance floor after a couple of pints and the opening bars of the Hokey Cokey!

If I hear a song on the radio I really like and I'm in a poopy mood just hearing the song and singing the lyrics is a real big pick-me up :-)

No, not really, but when I am usually down I listen to songs that are slow and sad.
