Am I ready to run a 10K?

I have been running regularly since August. Ran a 5K in October and a 5 Mile race this past Sunday. My friend would like to run a 10K next week. We plan to run 6 miles tomorrow.

The 5K was a breeze and the 5 Mile race was just OK. It was a VERY hilly coarse, but I made it through the whole race. The 10K will be flat and fast. Am I ready?

Thanks :)

Update:

I should add that I am only running to finish. I had a baby 5 months ago.

I'm in high school and i run. Get plenty of rest the night before and do an easy 3 mile run the day before. don't eat or drink allot before the race. make sure you stretch and stay loose before you run. Most importantly have something that motivates you, this is by far the most important whether it be a dieing relative or an item. Just think about it the entire race and avoid anything else from distracting you. try to get pumped for the race and while running whatever you do don't walk it screws your pace up and you will have an extremely hard time trying to run again. find someone with a good pace and run with them. good luck

Going from 5 miles to 6.1 isn't a big jump. Going from 6.1 to 13.1 is!

Do a training run - do it slow. Do it at a slower pace than your 5 mile pace and you should be fine.

If you're talking about a race and you had a hilly 5 miler, you can probably use that pace for your 10K with no problems!

    Good luck!

yes, if you ran a 5 mile race on a hilly course [sic], you should be able to handle the 10k. Just don't push too hard.

You are definately ready. If you ran a 5 mle race, then a 10k is onlya mile more. You should be fine.

    yeah you will be grand

and theres no shame if you dont run it all, if you have only been running since August.

ive been running since April and can barely make it to 4k...

Yeah I am sure you will be fine. Just do your best and see what happens. Good Luck!

  • Probably. Maybe just try an 8k or something like that, just to see how it is.
