I've been working and staying in Vietnam for 7 years. Currently back to my own country. As a foreigner and personal point of view:-
PROs:-
If you are a bachelor, the first initial years would be an enjoyable period if you are from a developed country. There are so many things to experience eg crossing the road with so many bikes driving around, the living environment where houses are close to each other, the vietnamese foods, the drinking pubs with friendly staff, the differences between south/central/north vietnam etc etc.
CONs:-
Communication issues with Vietnamese as they seems to have their own set of thinking, hence could be tough to really blend in with them, even for foreigner husband and vietnamese wife. After a while, staying in vietnam on a longer period could create stress as you will be no longer enjoying those initial years of enjoyment as the working environment/government bureaucracy/people/bikes/pollution doesn't seems to improve much..
Anyway, do try and I'm sure it will be a great experience....
