SEC beats up on Big Ten?

For all of you SEC fans out there who talk about the SEC dominating the Big Ten every year. I just wanted to throw something out at ya. Since the 2000-2001 season, the Big Ten is 10-9 versus the SEC in bowl games. Thats what i call domination.

Update:

i meant "thats what i call domination" as sarcasm towards SEC fans. In otherwords, NOT domination. Instead, a slight advantage to the Big 10....sorry for any confusion

Update 2:

you are right about one thing, Calil. But what you are wrong about is my motivation for writing this. Its my pride in the Big 10. And yes, Ohio State has struggled against the SEC. But i once again point out that i'm not talking about Ohio State, i'm talking about the Big 10 as a whole.

Update 3:

hey teeroy, i really don't care what the SEC's record is against BCS top 25 this year. That and a quarter will buy you a hot cup of jack squat unless you win your bowl games. and as we have both pointed out, its pretty even when the SEC and Big 10 come together.

Update 4:

Bundy, i said its NOT domination....read more before you try and act sarcastic

Update 5:

Hey Andrew, nice win,er, uh, loss last week. Way to lose yourself right out of the national championship picture. Go OU indeed!

I call it a dead even draw, lol. Bowl games are hard to judge by as they are not always the same level just how they placed, but i agree the Big Ten have had their way and the SEC has had their wins as well. I think a lot of the hype of some of the conferences is crazy. I am a Kentucky fan and yes an SEC fan and I do get tired of them saying the SEC is the strongest of the bunch, but they do beat up on each other and they are no joke as well I agree the Big Ten can compete with anyone and this year they are looking stronger then ever as Indiana and Illinois has joined the pack. This is why college football is such a great sport it has so much rivalry and arguments to fight for your team, but as well as the conference to help justify your team. NFL you are dead set on you team and you really dont have the argument of the best division or conference as much, college is PAC-10, ACC, SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, and Big East all have a strong case of being the toughest and until that championship is over you will fight and fight and then when the Champs are crown we will still say they didnt deserve it and that certain team should have gotten it and would have beaten them.

Let's have a look at this season. Here are the BigTeleven and SEC records against the current BCS Top 25 teams...

    BigTeleven Top Five

    Michigan 2-1

Ohio State 1-0 (Yup, only one win over a BCS-ranked team)

    Wisconsin 0-1

    Penn State 0-4

    Purdue 0-2

    That's a whopping 3-8. .273. Not so good.

    SEC Top Five

    Florida 3-1

    Arkansas 2-3

    LSU 2-2

    Auburn 2-1

    Tennessee 1-3

That's 10-10. Hmmmm. Only .500, but not a losing record.

OK Let's take away the bottom team of those five in each conference...

    BigTeleven Top Four

    Michigan 2-1

    Ohio State 1-0

    Wisconsin 0-1

    Penn State 0-4

    Wow! 3-6. Getting better!!! A solid .333

    SEC Top Four

    Florida 3-1

    Arkansas 2-3

    LSU 2-2

    Auburn 2-1

    9-7. Hm. A winning percentage of .563.

    Shall we go on?

    Michigan 2-1

    Ohio State 1-0

    Wisconsin 0-1

Wow. 3-2. .600. Nice. On the plus side.

    Florida 3-1

    Arkansas 2-3

    LSU 2-2

7-6. .539. Oh, so close! But, still a winning record.

Enough talk of the BigTeleven being better. Only two teams have a victory over a BCS team.

    Arkansas by 11

    Tennessee by 17

    Florida by 6

You have good things sometimes come to an end, then the football world changes, this happens all the time, the ability to coach up a team is the difference in the Mississippi State-Michigan game, and Alabama could have beaten anyone yesterday Michigan State was set up. Remember LSU was suppose to go to that bowl. Now they go to the Cotton Bowl to Face Texas A&M. State may have given LSU a better game but LSU I Believe still would have won. Too many good athletes. Tomorrow If Ohio State Looses to Arkansas don't worry they may meet again because they the hogs don't loose anyone either. 3 more SEC games LSU, Arkansas, AUBURN.

Seeing as how you are an Ohio State fan I know you are very eager to flaunt your bragging rights between the Big Ten and the SEC. Ohio State doesn't deserve any of the credit because Ohio State has played an SEC team eight times in bowl games and have lost every time. So thank your beloved team up north and the others for giving you the honor of being able to say that the Big Ten has beat the SEC more times than the SEC has beat the Big Ten. Go on now and give Michigan some love.

I hope Oklahoma gets to smack down your favorite SEC team in a bowl game. They just got hit hard by the injury bug at the wrong time with their three top players out - and two more starters to boot. All but one should be back for bowl season.

10-9 is not domination it's barely over .500 however in the last few years, the SEC has emerged as way more of a power house than the Big 10.

  • 1 decade ago

Maybe by Big Ten standards that is domination. But in reality that is some real good games. I have watched a few of those games. Most of them have been close games. Fun games to watch, but for the most part no one has totally dominated, except for that game they played last year were that little SEC team from Florida beat up on some powerhouse team form Ohio State.

Thank you, I am so sick of SEC fans talking smack about how great they are and the Big 10 sucks just because of the title game last year. Apparently, they are pretty even since 2000, since the bowl games match up teams that finish in the same spots in their respective conferences. I wish that OSU could sneak into the title game and beat LSU just to shut them up.
