It really depends on the child. My oldest son hated the swing, but loved the bouncer. My middle son loved both of them, and my daughter hated both of them.
I loved the Graco open top swings, battery operated. Now I see that they make swings that plug right into an outlet, so you're not spending big bucks replacing batteries every other day, if the kid likes the swing. I never liked the wind up swings, because every time I went to wind it, the kids would wake up, and not go back to sleep.
As for the bouncer, I bought my first one on ebay. It had vibrations and music. I bought a pink Bright Starts bouncer for my daughter new, about $30 at Wal-Mart. It had the music and vibration as well.

My son had a swing. It swings back and forth, while a bouncer usually only works if the baby kicks, and has a vibration setting and some music if you go for the high end one. The swing was more convenient for us, but it's really a matter of preference. I had the Fisher Price Open Top Take Along swing and we liked the fact that we could bring it to Grandma's every once in a while.

A swing is a seat that levitates off the ground and swings back and forth. A bouncy/vibrating chair sits on the ground and bounces when your baby kicks, some also have the option for you to turn on vibration. When my son was a newborn, he liked the bouncy/vibrating seat alot better than the swing. He refused to sit in the swing. If your going to invest in a bouncy seat make sure it has a vibrating option on it also an arc with toys is a plus when they get older. That way they have something to bat at while sitting in it. My son still doesn't much like his swing but he will sit in it for a little while. Some people swear by swings though. If i were you I would purchase used items and just wash and sanitize them. Swings and bouncers aren't cheap!

I use the fisher price papasan seat A LOT! She sleeps in it at night. She hated the swing that swings back and forth. I finally got a side to side swing. It was great!! So I am now using that a bit more but I defintely get my money's worth out of the vibrating seat! I would get both if I could but if you can't then get the seat for sure!!
I have the fisher price rain forest swing. It's like the papasan swing but with animals.

My babies liked them both. The swing was excellent when they were very little and the bouncers when they were older. Swing recommendations: Find one that is automatic (battery operated), reclines a lot, and is open on the top (no bar above it). I can't recommend a specific brand name. As for the bouncers: if it's a seat, my only recommendation is that it's easy to clean, if it's one that you attach to the ceiling or doorway, make sure you have the room and a safe way to attach it. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I used my swing more than the bouncer. The rocking motion of the swing is very soothing for a baby. I have the fisher price papasan swing. I used it for my daughter and now my son.

A bouncer is better for an older baby because it will help them develop muscle tone. For a young baby who can't hold their head up a swing would be better.

that depends on each kid individually.. i had a swing and bouncer with my twins and they HATED the swing! my son loved his swing and his bouncer.
i found the bouncer to be move useful to us. they would sit in it while i did things (shower, clean) and when they learned to hold their own bottles we would just lean them back in the bouncer and let them eat.
you might see if a friend has both you can borrow to try out to see what your baby will like more..

i like graco swings. my daughter prefers swings to bouncers, its smoother and the bouncer seem to stimulate her. so it really depends on what you want. to put her to sleep i used the swing when she was fussy and my hands were full. to play with her and make her giggle a little i used the bouncer (do not put the bouncer on a table or counter without being right there, it will bounce or vibrate off the table).
