Why are most questions in R&S asked not for an answer but only for a response?

The questioner isn't seeking new information. They already know what they bealive the correct answer is and are not looking to be convinced otherwise?

Approval and self-validation, a pat on the back are all strong needs, especially in the area of religion regardless of one's beliefs. They're looking for some to agree with them, anyone who will tell that their ******** beliefs are okay. I see it a as a sign of immaturity and insecurity to need a stranger to validate our feelings and I must admit that I sense a bit of it in myself at times. But don't we all have that need to some extent? When I know what I feel, I always put the question to a vote so as not to give this impression and also to listen to what other people think. Heavens! Did I say "listen to other people?" What a novel idea. I may be on to something!

The reason they do as you say is their agenda. The word response should be replaced with result. They ask questions that will disparage Christianity. Which is the result they seek. HOWEVER some do it for as you say a "response" just to entertain themselves.

christians have faith: they don't need information to inform their beliefs, since their beliefs are not truth based to start with.

atheists know better than to expect any kind of an informative response out of the christians.

Because the only way to get a response is to ask a question.

I think a lot of the posts are really askers trying to convey a point or their slant on things. I don't really see a problem with it.

Then why ask the question in the first place?

Because most so called "answerers" lie at times.
